TV Box is a device that when connected to a TV or monitor turn them into smart devices. The most common TV Box is an Android TV Box but other popular alternatives can be based on Linux like STB, KODI itself like LibreElec and Apple TV OS like the Apple TV devices.

My Opinion About The SuperBox S1 PRO & Why I Will Never Review It

This is my opinion about the SuperBox S1 PRO since I got asked by a lot of you to share it with you. I got plenty of emails from various sellers in order to review this device and recommend it. And even if they give you crazy money if you “convince” people to buy it, I refused. I also refused to get one as a sample to review since they want to add their link in the video description.

Now, I am not saying that the SuperBox S1 Pro is a scam. At the end of the day you pay for it and it arrives. The issue is that it seems “shady”, or even illegal if they do not have the licenses which means they will be shut down at some point. Then you will be left with a cheap, outdated tv box and no service. Because let’s face the elephant in the room, if you buy this Superbox, you only do it for the live tv and movies, the Blue TV, and the Blue VOD apps that are included.

I am not biased quite the opposite I would love to make money. But not if the cost is to lose my credibility and your trust.
Also, I am very disappointed by some “reviewers” that recommend this device. It’s just a matter of time until this service shuts down and leaves all those people with a cheap box that is outdated.
I will never affiliate with a product I don’t believe in, even if I lose hundreds or as in this case thousands of revenue. Your trust has no price tag.

I want also to point out that I am not here to preach ethics. A user can do whatever he wishes with his money. I know a lot of people use IPTV, but it is different if you get a month to month subscription, different if you pay up-front a lifetime subscription, especially with my blessing (or any other YouTuber / Reviewer).

This is my opinion about the SuperBox S1 PRO and the reason why I will never review it.

Mi TV Stick Price

New Android TV Device By Xiaomi

Not a leak but a listing, perhaps by mistake, revealing the new Android TV device by Xiaomi has come up from Gearbest. The brand-new Xiaomi Mi TV Stick running on Android TV OS. The device has been already confirmed that will start selling on May 2020 so we are either way really close.

Xiaomi Mi TV Stick Price

It’s very curious that while the listing doesn’t feature a price for the Android TV Stick, the $79.99 price does show up at the retailer’s search page. The cost of the device looks like a flash sale but it can also prove to be a price for those who just get the Mi TV Stick for first.

Specifications of the Mi TV Stick

Diving into the specs, the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick will be running just with a little better specs as the previously released Xiaomi Mi Box S. but in a smaller size. The Mi TV stick comes with the Amlogic S905Y2 quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. The GPU is a Mali-G31. But we should wait for official confirmation since the listing displays the device as “Mi Box S,” which means this could be just a copy and paste from the previous listings until GearBest has updated information. That mention could also be a typo, and these specs may be correct. According to the Gearbest listing, the Mi TV Stick also supports 4K HDR, DTS-HD audio, Dolby Stereo Sound, Dual-Band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth v4.2, and a USB 3.0 Type-C port for charging.

Xiaomi Mi TV Stick 2020

Considerations about the new Mi TV Stick

However, the $79.99 price listed in the search results is higher by almost 25% from the Xiaomi Mi Box S, which retailed for $59.99 at launch. And we are not even sure if that ends up being the final price for the new Xiaomi Mi TV Stick. The listing is showing as a “Flash Sale”. That can also mean that the final price may be $100 after the flash sale ends.

I really wished the new Android TV device from Xiaomi would have better specs. While I am 100% sure that the performance will be absolutely great, it would have been very appreciated if Xiaomi updated the specs to a more 2020 device. Let’s just hope that as with the Nvidia Shield TV 2019, we will see a PRO version by Xiaomi too.

In any case, as the previous Mi Box S has been one of our best Android TV Box devices, we are confident that Xiaomi will not disappoint us with this new model.

TiVo Stream 4K

The Android TV-powered TiVo Stream 4K was originally expected to launch with a $50 promotional pricing this April. It offers an Android TV experience that’s all about live TV and also uses some changes to Android TV than we’d usually see, including a proper channel surfing experience.

Originally, TiVo announced the Stream 4K to arrive in April 2020, but that date has come and gone. Speaking to TVTechnology recently (via ZatzNotFunny), TiVo confirmed the Stream 4K would be at least slightly delayed, set to arrive “in the next few weeks”.

While it is possible this could be related to coronavirus production issues that also other companies have faced this period, TiVo hasn’t released any further information. In any case, here at Dimitrology.com we’re still pretty excited to test out this new Android TV dongle for ourselves. We’ll keep you updated on when it’s officially released.

Android TV Box Certified By Google

The Mecool KM1 TV Box is a Google certified Android TV device that just hit the market. With the latest specs and great performance is on sale right for a very competitive price. It comes in three variations:

  • 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage which sales for $79.99 after using the coupon 4PGLDAIK,
  • 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage saling for $72.99 after using the coupon 4PGLGIYM and the
  • 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage with a super-low price of just $58.99 after using the coupon 4PGM1BCP
Mecool KM1 S905X3

Mecool KM1 Specs

What is great about the Mecool KM1 is the fact that unlike the Xiaomi Mi Box S, it is powered by a brand-new and powerful CPU and GPU. In fact the device comes with the Amlogic S905X3 a very powerful CPU that can easily play 4K UHD up to 60 fps. Also powerful the GPU which can not only playback any given video format but allows you to play in an excellent manner any Android game. Another great feature is the optimal WiFi, supports 2GHz and 5Ghz -that’s Dual Band WiFi for faster internet connection! It is also faster than any traditional Dual Band WiFi since it is a 2T2R module with 2 antennas for even faster connections. And then we have the USB 3.0 that allows you to connect any compatible external HD and USB drive so you can elevate your experience with super fast speeds, unlike the old USB 2.0 that now days serves only for connections like a mouse, keyboard, gamepads and remotes. in the specifics, we find 1 x USB 3.0, 1 X USB 2.0, a micro SD card slot, HDMI port, a 10/100M Ethernet port and an AV output. Also included the Bluetooth module version 4.2 so you can attach even more devices.

geekbuying-MECOOL-KM1-Collective-Amlogic-S905X3-4GB-64GB-Android-9-0-TV-BOX-Black-846199-.jpg (1000×1000)

Mecool KM1 Remote Control

Another excellent point to be added: the included remote control. An already amazing remote, very similar to the Mi Box S and the previous Mecool models, now has 3 dedicated buttons: Youtube, Amazon Prime Video and Google Play are away just a click! And of course the dedicated button for Google Assistance is always there since the remote has also a built-in microphone for voice commands.

Video Playback

As you may suspect if you are more tech savvy, the Mecool KM1 with this SoC is a great piece of a media center. It can play any given video format with the default player or even KODI. And it also supports 4K Ultra HD on Youtube, 4K UHD also on Amazon Prime Video too! Not the same luck with Netflix since as we know, Netflix is not allowing a lot of devices to use their 4K license even though the lower resolutions are also supported and you can use Netflix too. HDR playback is also great, given of course that you have a TV that supports such technology.

Conclusion

Given that this Android 9 Pie Mecool KM1 comes with all the best for the price, in my opinion is a great device to get, especially considering the price after the coupon discount. Be sure to check all three versions even though for the price, I would go for the Mecool KM1 4GB / 64GB which appears also the most future-proof too. The offer is time limited so make sure to grab one now!

4K Ultra HD and HD only on selected devices

If Netflix is your main streaming application and you want a new tv box, then you will find that not a lot of devices are Netflix certified. What does that mean? That essentially Netflix is only allowing certain devices to stream on their best 4K UHD / HD quality. I’ve had that discussion hundred of times, from friends that want the best quality for their streaming experience. Since they got that Netflix 4K Ultra HD subscription they also wanted the best TV Box for Netflix in HD. Unfortunately, not all devices actually support Netflix in 4K UHD / HD. Some devices will only play movies and tv shows from Netflix at SD quality, which is 480p and of course, the disappointment is big! And do not get me wrong, a lot of great devices may do that too as excellent Android smartphones and tablets.

Netflix 4K Ultra HD and HD certified devices list

Below you will find the list with the supported devices for Netflix, thus the Best TV Box / Media Streamer for Netflix on 2020:

Shield TV 2019
Nvidia Shield TV 2019

Nvidia Shield TV (2019)

The “budget” Nvidia Shield TV (2019), or else called the Nvidia Shield “Tube” because of its design. This is the entry-level by Nvidia into the magical world of Android TV. Google Assistant, Alexa, for no hands control. And GeForce NOW game streaming, 4K HDR video streaming, Dolby Atmos audio in such a compact and unique device. Performance is still great although if you want to game too, I would opt for the bigger brother, the Nvidia Shield TV PRO. Great remote control with voice command, same as the Pro version. Get it from Amazon here.

xiaomi mi box s best 2019
Xiaomi Mi Box S

Xiaomi Mi Box S

The updated version of the Xiaomi Mi Box S is not the most powerful device in the market, yet it will amaze you with great 4K HDR streaming capabilities. As it is an Android TV device, come with Google Cast (Chromecast) built-in in almost at the same price! The limit in connectivity may not be a deal-breaker for users that mostly want to stream Netflix in 4K since it comes with a strong and fast WiFi. The just 8 GB of internal storage is more than enough so you can stream without any issues while installing some other applications too. The Xiaomi Mi Box S is a great value for money! Get it from Amazon here (US) or from Gearbest (EU).

Amazon Firestick New
Fire TV Stick “Firestick”

Fire TV Stick 4K

The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K “Firestick” is a very loved device by a lot of people. Mostly because of its super compact size and easiness of use. Also lacks any basic connectivity but hey, it comes with a super-low price. Great remote and full integration with Amazon’s Alexa as expected. Lacks the Android TV Store by Google and while Amazons App Store is great, you will not find everything there. On the positive, it is also fantastic for Amazon’s Prime Video, of course, if you have a subscription. Get from Amazon here.

Fire TV Cube

Fire TV Cube

Always from Amazon, the Fire TV Cube was a big gamble that got a great reception. More powerful than the Firestick, is capable of more things, Like 4K HDR10+ streaming, acts as an Alexa speaker so you voice control your devices. Also a more powerful six-core CPU and 16 GB of storage. If Amazon is your kind of stuff, the Cube is the best solution for you. Link on Amazon in order to get one here.

Apple TV 4K
Apple TV 4K

Apple TV 4K

The Apple TV 4K is not only great for Apple TV+ but also for Netflix. It is a very powerful device that is somehow neglected by the brand based in Cupertino. Not that many apps and games in the App Store but Netflix on this device is rock solid! The remote is like a joke, at times super annoying – at times great. That’s in most cases you will not really love it for Netflix since it is kind of a pain advancing video with it. Audio is also amazing with the Apple TV 4K. But when we talk about connectivity bottoms with other devices, Apple TV 4K is the champion by far. There is only a port for Ethernet, apart from the HDMI and the power cable port. Get it from Apple.

Nvidia Shield TV Pro best tv box for netflix 2020
Nvidia Shield TV Pro

Nvidia Shield TV Pro

The new Nvidia Shield TV PRO is the updated version of the already amazing device by Nvidia, the Shield TV 2017, the champ of the streaming devices. Being already more powerful than any other device, they decided to keep it exactly the same. If not a little worse to be honest. But still, it is the best out there and now comes with a great new feature. The AI upscaling that can use artificial intelligence so it can upscale the quality of a Full HD 1080p video to 4K Ultra HD. It may sound science fiction but it really works great! Lacks of a dedicated audio port, you can only use the HDMI port for audio. Link on Amazon for purchase here.

The Best For Netflix 4K UHD / HD

As you can see, there are a lot of devices that support Netflix 4K UHD / HD and for different budgets. While some have better specs, or more storage or even some special functions, one thing is the same on all of them. They all stream Netflix in a superb way!

Not Only Netflix

Don’t Care About Netflix in 4K UHD / HD? Then visit the dedicated page with the Best TV Box 2020 Edition, in order to help you select which is the best for you.

What’s the difference between Android TV, Android TV Box and Fire TV? In the following video we talk about the differences of these so close but also different Android streaming devices that are so popular. They all share basically the same operating system, Android OS by Google but it comes in three different styles. Users can be very confused by these three different devices and selecting the correct one is usually a hard task. Also there is a lot of confusion when we talk about Android TV and Android TV Boxes. And while Fire TV by Amazon seems so different, is it really?

Android 10 On Android TV

Android 10 is out and Google has kept its promise as of this September announcing Android 10 on Android TV until the end of the year. After taking a while for Android 9 Pie in order to arrive also on Android TV devices, this time Google delivered in time the latest version of Android. As Android TV becomes day by day more popular so is Google’s plans for the platform.

“When Android TV was first introduced in 2014, we set out to bring the best of Android into the connected home on the TV,” Google wrote in their Android TV OS blog post. “We worked closely with the developer community to grow our content and app ecosystem and bring users the content they want. Since then, we’ve seen tremendous momentum with OEM and operator partners as well as consumer adoption worldwide.”

Nexus Player Evolution – The ADT-3

To make sure developers have the ability to build and test Android TV app implementations on Android 10 prior to rollout, Google introduced a new, developer-focused streaming media device called ADT-3.

With a quad-core A53, 2GB of DDR3 memory and 4Kp60 HDR HDMI 2.1 output, Google designed this pre-certified TV dongle with updates and security patches to help developers design for the next generation of Android TV devices. That is extremely helpful for third-party manufacturers like Nvidia, Xiaomi, Sony, etc but also for app developers. But do not expect to be able to get one as a consumer. The super small device is only for developers. And as more and more people are wishing for a Pixel TV device, for now the only real device that delivers all the latest updates is still the Nvidia Shield TV.

Why I will not buy the New Nvidia Shield TV 2019

The 2015 Nvidia Shield TV came from the future. But the New Nvidia Shield TV 2019 came from…the past!

Before getting into the video I need to say 2 things. The 1st is that I am a big Nvidia Shield TV fan and I am very disappointed into making this video and 2nd that I already own 2 Nvidia Shield TV devices: The nvidia Shield TV 2015 and the Nvidia Shield TV PRO. Both have been serving me daily with great success and while they are top performers, in these 4 years almost 5 to be exact, I loved them even more. That is because as any device, especially a streaming / gaming device, had some minor issues but with the constant updates Nvidia has fixed everything and added even more. The Nvidia support on both devices has been incredible and no other company has ever done such an amazing work on supporting their devices. With every update they keep up with Android’s latest security patches and keep improving the performance while also adding new and exciting features. And one more thing that needs to be said, is that the Nvidia Shield TV has a great community that has an active part on improving the device. The Nvidia team gives big importance to the community and they always consider opinions and requests in order to deliver the best support in the streaming and cable cutting community. Without Nvidia, Android TV would never be so great at this point of time.

Nvidia Shield TV 2015 version

As mentioned before, the 2015 Shield TV really came from the future. With a stellar performance that was not even close to the next streaming devices that were powered by Amlogic, AllWinner or Rockchip SoC’s. That was thanks to an exceptional GPU with 256 CUDA cores, the Tegra X1 CPU, 3 GB of RAM, 2 X USB 3.0, micro USB 2.0, SD card slot, IR receiver, HDMI 2.0b, Gigabit Ethernet and Dual Band AC WiFi a 16GB SSD for the “normal version” or a 500GB hd for the PRO version, the 2015 Shield was a device made by aliens!

nvidia shield tv 2015 vs 2017

2017 Update

Then unfortunately with the update of the device we noticed also some minor cut backs. So, we lost the SD card slot and the micro USB for the 16GB version of Nvidia’s Shield TV 2017, that remained only to the PRO version until we lost also the PRO version completely. The remote control passed from a rechargeable battery to a 2 X CR-2032 3V battery which for some people was better, for me personally wasn’t an improvement, I hate it when I need to get new batteries when I can easily charge the device every now and then.

Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019

The New 2019 Nvidia Shield TV

And now the brand new Nvidia Shield TV 2019 comes out in two versions. A $150 Nvidia Shield TV which is essentially a cylindrical TV Dongle which I would have loved if it was 50-80$ cheaper even though it lacks a USB port and comes with 2GB of RAM and a merely 8GB of internal storage. The Nvidia Shield TV PRO on the other hand still lacks in everything if compared with the 2015 model except for the new CPU Tegra X1+, the addition of Dolby Vision and the new feature the AI Upscale. While the AI upscale and Dolby Vision are both great features, I don’t think it is something that is worth upgrading from my 2015 model. You get the same small SSD of 16GB (hello!? This 2019!!!) The new CPU on the other part is faster and Nvidia claims that is about 25% faster than the previous generation. While going through various benchmarks that can be easily found online, the actual difference seems to be less. At best at around 10% but main thing is that the real-life performance is actually the same. And overall as a device compared with the 2015 model, we lost the included gamepad, the SD card slot (which for some reason is available only to the small model) which was really handy to have. Now if you do not have a Nvidia Shield TV then by all means, the 2019 model is a great buy for $199. You can have an incredible experience in streaming and of course gaming with the Nvidia Games is absolutely phenomenal. Also, it is worth mentioning, as I have already written to an article on my website Google Stadia will also launch too. But at the same time I think that the 2015 would have been a better choice if it was available in the market, even at the same price. Streaming and gaming performance would be the same, you would have more connectivity options as long as the Dolby Vision addition is not that important to you.

Nvidia Shield TV 2019 Remote

The positive about the Shield TV 2019

What it is a great addition on both 2019 Shield TV and Shield TV PRO is the new remote control. While I may not love the Toblerone looks of it, it seems much easier to use and with some extra buttons that are greatly appreciated. And this time, at least the batteries are AAA that can be found way easier than the CR-types. My only objection is that the appreciated remote finder would work with a physical button on the device, instead from the UI which means you still need a remote to find your remote!? But great news is that the new remote control will be also sold separately for $29.99 and works with older models as well. When it comes to Nvidia you have to give it to them. Even though they launch new products, they still support exceptionally the older models as well. While I will not upgrade to the new Nvidia Shield TV 2019, I will still suggest it as a best buy because it blows the competition. But I am also disappointed since I was definitely was expecting more. Maybe with the launch of the upcoming Nintendo Switch, with which they usually share the same SoC, we will get another device from the future. But for now, I’m gonna stick with my older models which I expect to gain value in the used marketplace too!

What do you think?

Will you upgrade to the new Shield TV and if yes to which model? Also if you are new to the amazing world of Android TV, will the new models be your next companion?
