KODI 17 BETA 7 – LAST BETA BEFORE THE RELEASED CANDIDATE VERSIONS!!!

KODI 17 Beta 7(!) is out just before Christmas, Yeah!!! That means KODI 17 Final is close, right!!? No! Now we will start with a new series of RC aka Release Candidate Versions flooding around. Let’s hope that the RC versions will be less than those of the Beta which were honestly a lot!

The latest Beta promises a lot of the major bugfixes so at least on the aesthetics you will not notice anything new other than some minor changes on the two new skins (including the greenish color to blue-ish), the Estouary and the Estouchy skins. Both skins are a bold move by the KODI team, redesigning the whole UI conception we were used since XBMC. Now the new skin is more touch friendly and also has the flat look that is so popular lately.

And since on the aesthetics anyone can have a different opinion, let’s talk about the performance. It is true that the hard work of KODI team performed a huge amount of bugfixes, covering almost everything and is safe to say that this is the best release ever! KODI 17 Krypton on Windows is very fast, the fastest until now and seems to be very stable even though it is early to say it for sure. I personally tried also my build for KODI, the Boom Shakalaka KODI Build on Krypton on this latest BETA 7 and seems to be way faster! On my NVIDIA Shield TV I didn’t notice a huge difference but I have to try it more to be sure. In any case as much as Android is concerned we should also wait for SPMC to see the real potential of Krypton. For now, always on Android SPMC is the way to go if you use an NVIDIA Shield TV or an Amlogic / FireTV device.

 

The most important fixes done in Beta 7:
• Update Estuary and Estouchy skin with some bugfixes
• Enable IEC61937 audio passthrough support on Android for DTS-HD, TrueHD, DTS:X and ATMOS in case the Android version supports this
• Fix PVR channel OSD display conditions
• Fix possible crash in PVR EPG
• Fix multiple selection in file browser
• Fix duplicate context menu for PVR recordings
• Fix wrong window size on OSX
• Fix problem on Windows that currently in use skins couldn’t be updated
• Further improvement of cmake build system
• Various other improvements and fixes
