Starting with the aesthetics of the device, the R99 comes with an excellent aluminum case which gives two advantages: a luxury, beautiful device that will get a lot of attention and most imprortantly, an always cool device even under high stress. Before getting into the specs of the device we should also note that comes with an excellent WiFi remote. No more struggle to get the remote in a perfect straight line with the device to control it, the included USB dongle will take care of the connection between the two devices perfectly, even for the power function.
Powered by a RK3399 Chip 64bit Dual ARM Cortex-A72 Big-core + Quad ARM Cortex-A53 Small-core CPU (Hexacore) it is a benchmark monster. The it is completed by a Mali-T860 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. On the left side of the device there is a port which works as the WiFi antenna, the on board Dual Band WiFi b/g/n/ac is one of the best I have ever come upon in speed and strength signal.
On the right side of the R99 TV Box we find also a part of the curved LED indicator, a micro SD Card slot, a type-C USB 3.1, a USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0. Moving to the back of the device we find a LAN / Ethernet 1GB port, an optical SPDIF output, HDMI 2.0 for real 4K at 60fps resolution and the DC 5V input.
Powered by Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 for now, comes pre-installed with the Google Playstore from where you can install any application you want, including the latest version of KODI 18 or the stable version 17.6. Both perform brilliantly, no lags or issues of any kind, even on 4K. And as a personal note, my personal preference is that the Rockchip CPU’s have better colors when decoding a video file compared to the Amlogic CPU’s. I would only recommend you uninstall the KODI fork version that comes already with the device and install KODI from Google Playstore instead for better performance.
Speaking of performance, the device confirms the monstrous benchmark results. Multi-tasking and even gaming is a pleasure with the R99 TV Box. It is one of the few devices which will let you enjoy games on high profiles with great fps.
