How To Update Sideloaded Apps On Android TV Fire TV Stick 📺

Update sideloaded apps easily with this free app on any Android TV device like the Nvidia Shield TV, Mi Box, Fire TV, Sony TV, Philips TV, Sharp TV, TCL, etc. The applications that are designed to work on Android smartphones and tablets can still be installed on Android TV devices but what happens with the updates since they are not on the Google Play Store for Android TV? With this application, the APKUpdater app, now we can easily download and update any sideloaded app.

We’ve done plenty of tutorials on this channel on how to install sideloaded apps or better yet how to sideload apps on Android TV devices. But other than using the Aurora app, we really never did a video tutorial on how to update sideloaded apps. So this is a chance to do so, thanks to a subscriber who reached out to me on Twitter.

So in this tutorial, we are gonna showcase the easiest way in order to update apps not on Play Store.

If you decide to sideload apps, meaning install apps that cannot be found on the Android TV Play Store, sometimes you will not find them. In the specific, you will not find the app icon on your Android TV home screen, you will not even find the sideloaded application inside your App drawer. In this tutorial, I am gonna show you how to add to your Android TV Home Screen any app that you sideloaded.

Why sideload apps? Even though the Android TV Play Store has a lot of applications, there are a lot more applications that are designed to be used on smartphones and tablets. So you will need to download and install them on your Android TV device (TV or streaming device like the Nvidia Shield TV, Mi Box S, etc.).

With the Nebula Manager application, which is a free app from Google Play Store, you can add a second row of apps, like the “Apps” row which comes by default on your launcher’s home screen. And if you never sideload apps, you can still add applications just for the easiness of having two rows of applications and games.

With these 3 tips you can make your Android TV device way faster. Especially when you use a low-end device or your TV is bloated with apps from your manufacturer like some cheap Android TVs.

The first tip is to always use an Ethernet cable to connect to your router/internet. In case that is not possible, you can use a USB Hub with Ethernet.
Second, try to clear the Home of Android TV from unnecessary widgets. If you do not use for example an app like Rakuten or similar, simply remove it. It will free RAM and resources.
Third and most important of all, use the Background Apps and Process List to remove apps from auto-starting on the first boot of your device/TV. You will be surprised by how many applications start without your knowledge at every restart. This is a neat way to close apps that are not needed and that only consume an amount of your RAM.

App not showing up on your Android TV home screen or under Apps? These are two easy ways on how to find sideloaded apks on Android TV.

It happens that when you download and install Android apps on Android TV that they will not show up in the app center. Normally the app icons will show and this is how you can launch them. But some apps since they are not designed for Android TV will not appear and a lot of users do not know how to open them.

In this video, I will show you 2 easy methods on how to find the downloaded android apps that do not show on your Android TV device like an Nvidia Shield TV, Xiaomi Mi Box S, or SONY TV, etc.

While the first method, using Sideload Launcher is pretty easy, the second method using the TV App Repo application is better in my opinion since it is cleaner and permits you to add the app icon on the app drawer of the Android TV Leanback Launcher / App Drawer. So definitely make sure to check it out too!
