Not a leak but a listing, perhaps by mistake, revealing the new Android TV device by Xiaomi has come up from Gearbest. The brand-new Xiaomi Mi TV Stick running on Android TV OS. The device has been already confirmed that will start selling on May 2020 so we are either way really close.

It’s very curious that while the listing doesn’t feature a price for the Android TV Stick, the $79.99 price does show up at the retailer’s search page. The cost of the device looks like a flash sale but it can also prove to be a price for those who just get the Mi TV Stick for first.

Specifications of the Mi TV Stick

Diving into the specs, the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick will be running just with a little better specs as the previously released Xiaomi Mi Box S. but in a smaller size. The Mi TV stick comes with the Amlogic S905Y2 quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. The GPU is a Mali-G31. But we should wait for official confirmation since the listing displays the device as “Mi Box S,” which means this could be just a copy and paste from the previous listings until GearBest has updated information. That mention could also be a typo, and these specs may be correct. According to the Gearbest listing, the Mi TV Stick also supports 4K HDR, DTS-HD audio, Dolby Stereo Sound, Dual-Band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth v4.2, and a USB 3.0 Type-C port for charging.

Considerations about the new Mi TV Stick

However, the $79.99 price listed in the search results is higher by almost 25% from the Xiaomi Mi Box S, which retailed for $59.99 at launch. And we are not even sure if that ends up being the final price for the new Xiaomi Mi TV Stick. The listing is showing as a “Flash Sale”. That can also mean that the final price may be $100 after the flash sale ends.

I really wished the new Android TV device from Xiaomi would have better specs. While I am 100% sure that the performance will be absolutely great, it would have been very appreciated if Xiaomi updated the specs to a more 2020 device. Let’s just hope that as with the Nvidia Shield TV 2019, we will see a PRO version by Xiaomi too.

In any case, as the previous Mi Box S has been one of our best Android TV Box devices, we are confident that Xiaomi will not disappoint us with this new model.

Great video performance of this device thanks to the new CPU always very capable to 4K playback at 60fps, capable also of 4K UHD HDR, HEVC 10 Bit. But also for other Android applications is very capable, even gaming since the processor is good enough, although not at the NVidia Shield TV level, but also the 4GB DDR4 help a lot with multitasking and heavy apps. Supports the latest version of KODI 18 Leia and also the new feature with voice search inside KODI through the remote control. On the Google Play Store Android TV version you can find a lot of exciting titles, that said you can also sideload any “vanilla” Android application you want.

NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV “Smart Home Edition” is out

The NVIDIA SHIELD TV is now available to buy in a new bundle which delivers more on the Android TV device’s smart home capabilities. The main difference is the inclusion of a Samsung’s SmartThings Link dongle. The NVIDIA SHIELD TV Smart Home Edition is available to buy now from Amazon, and is priced at $219.99 in the US.

The SmartThings Link usb dongle for the NVIDIA SHIELD became available in late 2017, and so in reality this is not a new product. But now the bundle is listed on the official NVIDIA site allowing future owners to buy the products together instead of getting them separately. Truth be told, there doesn’t seem to be any financial incentive buying the bundle, as it’s priced exactly as the cost of the items if purchased separately. So for now this more of a convenience bundle, than anything else.

What makes SmartThings Link different is its size, as it is just a USB dongle that can be plugged into the back of the SHIELD as a usual USB dongle. Once done and connected, the SmartThings Link immediately becomes a smart hub for the home, allowing SHIELD owners the option to control and manage multiple smart devices (lights, outlets and more) from the SmartThings Link, in other words from the SHIELD Android TV. So, for who is it for then? Well this bundle is specifically designed for those people who are looking for an immediate solution for both Android TV and a Smart Home Hub. In fact, as of right now the “SHIELD TV Gaming Edition” is selling curently for $179.99  (you actually get the gamepad for FREE!). Then you can always add on the $39.99 price for the SmartThings Link, the total comes in at $219.98 – the same cost as the Smart Home Edition which does not inclue with the NVIDIA Shield TV gamepad.
